Make 2 Week Spring Break Permanent

http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/classroom_assessment/09_report_student_prog.pdf When Abbotsford teachers & trustees want a 2 week Spring Break they argue that 4 or 5 lost schools days won't make any difference to students. When teachers & trustees don't want a 2 week Break, they argue that 4 or 5 lost learning days will devastate vulnerable learners & must be avoided. Education leaders are alternately making contradictory arguments. This is an issue in a majority of school districts in our province. If Abbotsford parents teamed up with all the other school districts, through the Provincial parent-teacher group called BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC), we could ask the Minister of Education for a permanent 2 week Spring Break. I would ask the Family Court to share this new holiday equally, the first week at Dad's house, the second week at Mom's house, if I could prove to the Honourable Court that this 8-yr-old Break exists.

What does a trustee do? Part 2 - Re-elect John Sutherland as Abbotsford School Trustee

What does a trustee do? Part 2 - Re-elect John Sutherland as Abbotsford School Trustee

Hi John,

Your postings are great. Lots of history. Could you help me do the same for Parental Alienation. Neighbour cities have found this to be an issue like school closures, or the length of school days, that resonate with large numbers of families. Have single parents struggled to get report cards before? Have teens been told they don't have to ask either parents' permission for anything because they are "emancipated" before. How did Abbotsford schools respond as the For the Sake of the Children Committee, which eventually changed morphed into the Justice Committee, slowly plodded forward. Have our schools responded at all to these justice recommendations? Do you think these are issues in Abbotsford?

Cheers,

Kevin Pedersen

part 2 - Abbotsford City Councilor Candidates Forum

I have been told by Middle School counsellors that children are emancipated when they turn 16 years of age. This ignores the recent teen deaths in the gang wars, the rampant human trafficing in the news, and most importantly, the fact our Federal and Provincial governments require teens to be in the presence of a guardian to start almost any government activity, including opening bank accounts, starting a business, owning land, or even entering Federal or Provincial land.
